Khabonina Masango, Master’s Cohort 2020, Wits-TUB Urban Lab Alumni

Khabonina Masango is a Master’s of Urban studies graduate specialising in Sustainable Energy and Efficient cities from the Wits-TUB Urban Lab between the University of Witwatersrand and the Technishe Universitat Berlin (TUB). Khabonina graduated in 2020 and did modules specially on energy efficiency in buildings and integrating renewable energy in African cities which guided her to complete her dissertation focusing on the integration of renewable energy in the manufacturing hub situated in the City of Ekurhuleni. Since the completion of her master’s degree, Khabonina has worked in the sustainable energy and climate change projects in international organisations to ensure citizens within South Africa and the African continent achieve universal energy access to eradicate urban energy poverty and mitigating climate change. She has also participated in a sustainable energy for Africa fellowship hosted by the Enel Foundation in Italy and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), an organisation under the United Nations where she was one of the Top 20 fellows in 2022.
