Exploring means to spatial justice, reciprocity, agency and urban safety in a microcosm of wealth and deprivation in northern Johannesburg
The fieldtrip, departing 9:00 from Wits University and returning at 14:00, takes delegates to the Gautrain Marlboro Station, which is the epicentre of an area of pronounced spatial disparities, thatCUBES and the School of Architecture and Planning are engaging through the 2024-2026 Kelvin-Alexandra-Frankenwald City Studio. The interactive programme in and around the Marlboro Station’s activated parking garage will involve an exhibition of City Studio work, short presentations and discussions with local groups and organisations from the surroundings, performances and interactions around food and refreshments. There will also be the opportunity to participate in walking tours. The tours cost 150 Rand each and must be paid for in cash on site. You can still register for the field trip using this link.
If you would like to organise your own trip to Marlboro Station, please RSVP here for the event. You can also use this link to indicate which of the walking tours you are interested in.
